COVID has led to enormous complications across the NHS and primary care system, and the demand and pressures borne from the pandemic continue to worsen. That’s why the political and sociological appetite for NHS reorganisation is increasing, particularly when it comes to the range and quality of services provided in UK primary healthcare.
Across the Redcar Coastal PCN network, the pressures facing the NHS are incredibly complex and difficult to deal with. These pressures are exacerbated by long-standing socioeconomic deprivation and health problems in the area, all of which have been worsened further by the pandemic.

At Redcar Coastal PCN, our job is to overcome the troubles facing Redcar as a result of years of issues and the pandemic. Our services are vast, and our team members are specialists in their roles, and we help with the following:
Alternatives to GP appointments.
By providing additional roles across practices in the Redcar area, we’re able to offer alternatives to seeing a GP for patients. This can include holistic treatments from our social prescribing link worker, specialist physiotherapy courtesy of our first contact practitioner, and a range of mental health services for adults, children, and young people. |
Community engagements
Our scope extends to working with community organisations and structures, and our reach allows us to feed patients back into non-healthcare settings when that’s appropriate for their needs. Our social link prescribing workers have experience doing so across the country, and are eager to bring this experience to Redcar and Saltburn. |
Proactive management of complex and elderly patients.
With a vast bank of pharmacists and care-coordinators, our ability to proactively manage our elderly and complex patients is substantial. This is helpful where polypharmacy and poor continuity have the potential to cause significant harm, which is true of many cases in the Redcar Coastal PCN area. |
